Software test automation solutions

Job description

Magellium (Artal Group), with its 300-strong workforce, is an independent player, specialising in the value chain of pixel, image and video data (from satellite, airborne or drone sensors to their use in geographic information systems, cartography and Geointelligence). Magellium promotes mastery of software, AI, image processing and geomatics technologies.

The Earth Observation unit is in charge of space-based image processing activities. Its areas of expertise are: sensor geometry & image processing, calibration/validation & quality control, and Earth Observation services. Our remote sensing experts, scientists and specialised software designers focus on R&D programs, processing algorithms, ground segment systems and environmental services. Observing the Earth from space, monitoring our environment and climate change are our challenges.

The position

BACKGROUND

Magellium's Earth Observation Unit is structured into 5 Thematic Poles, one of which is dedicated to the development of image processing chains for the ground segments of Earth observation satellites. This team has expertise in this field and develops tools for its customers or for internal investment.

As part of its continuous improvement program, the Ground Segment is looking to upgrade the current automation of one of its software validation chains. The aim of this internship is to evaluate different automation solutions (generation of test cases, generation of associated scripts, test execution and evaluation of results), and to prototype solutions that can be integrated into the current continuous integration chain.

SUBJECT

As part of its activities, Magellium is developing two software modules to be integrated into a ground segment that will :

  • Process data from Earth observation satellites;
  •  Produce output data for various weather and science applications/services.

The ground segment consists of a chain of 16 software modules. The two modules developed by Magellium :

  • Receive input data from upstream software modules;
  • Must process this data to extract and manufacture output products for downstream modules;
  • Do not contain any GUI;
  • Runs on an environment that manages the implementation of all 16 ground segment modules, including data exchanges between them.

The internship will involve upgrading the software validation processes of two modules, by deploying a new automated testing framework.

This course will be structured in several phases:

  • A phase of familiarisation with the Magellium tooling, in particular to fully understand the use case and identify possible areas for improvement;
  • A "state of the art" phase consisting of learning about automation possibilities on the market, then consolidating a new technical base using the proposed technologies;
  • An implementation phase for the proposed solution, consisting of developing, validating and qualifying the automated test framework;
  • A reporting and analysis phase, by writing test execution reports, with the aim of estimating the gains offered by the proposed solution.

Profile required

As a student in a university or engineering school preparing a 5-year degree in computer science, you are interested and motivated to work in the field of software validation.

Keywords Keywords: Ground segment, Earth observation, Software validation, Continuous integration

IT keywords GitLab, Ansible, Docker, Git, Python, Shell, Java

Following this internship, the candidate may be offered a permanent position.
